Getting Started
Self Service is Traceable's simple process to install and configure Platform and Traceable agent in your environment by following the instructions displayed on the Traceable UI.
Self-service experience lets you see the value in the power of API security that Traceable brings to your environments. Self-service is useful for proof-of-value (PoV) during product evaluations and for onboarding new users and applications in your production environments. The entire process can be completed in approximately 10-minutes.
Once you have signed up with Traceable, you can choose one of the following two options:
Install platform agent and tracing agents to instrument your own applications and see how APIs are discovered and protected in a few easy steps.
Use Playground to view the value that Traceable brings to you using a sample application that it protects.

Playground

The playground option provides you access to the entire product with a sample application. The UI is pre-populated with canned application data. In the Playground, you can only view different features. If you want to try the various capabilities of Traceable using your data, click on the Go to my application at any time and install the platform and tracing agents following the on-screen instructions.

Install platform and tracing agents

As part of getting started with Self-service, you have to install the following two components:
    Platform agent
    Tracing agents

Platform agent

Traceable's platform agent collects distributed traces from the tracing agents and gathers API intelligence. After installation is complete, Traceable's API Intelligence Dashboard displays different types of information related to API endpoints. For example, the number of API endpoints discovered, total internal and external APIs, number of services and domains, and other useful metrics. The platform agent provides intelligent attack detection for known and unknown attacks. The platform agent is also responsible for managing the connection between your environment and Traceable's AI platform.
As part of the self-service experience you can install the platform agent in any of the following environments:
Infrastructure
Method/Operating System
Kubernetes
    Helm 3
    Terraform
Virtual Machine
    Amazon Linux 2
    CentOS 7 and 8
    Ubuntu 18 and 20

Tracing agent

The tracing agent monitors the API traffic. It can take a form of an in-app language agent, a sidecar proxy, API gateway plug-in, and so on. It collects the distributed traces and sends them to the platform agent explained above. The platform agent analyzes traces to gather API intelligence and may send some of those traces to the Traceable platform for further AI-led processing. As part of self-service, you can install the following tracing agents in different locations:
Location
Tracing Agent
In-App instrumentation
Java
Webserver
NGINX on:
    Amazon Linux 2
    CentOS
    Ubuntu 18 and 20
Sidecar Proxy
Kubernetes
To start the installation process, navigate to the Traceable UI and click on the Installation icon.
The estimated time taken by the setup process depends on the tracing agents that you deploy and are displayed in the product.
On successful installation, the UI displays a summary of the installation process with the number of API endpoints and services that Traceable discovered.
Click on Go To Traceable to navigate to the product UI.
